This is a repair service
You send us your original Mercedes 7G-Tronic conductor plate / VGS unit, removed from the valve body; we replace the covered internal speed sensor fault, fully test the unit, then return the same conductor plate ready to refit.

About this repair

Specialist Mercedes 7G-Tronic Conductor Plate Repair

Mercedes 7G-Tronic conductor plate repair from Blackstone covers failure of the internal speed sensors within the 722.9 conductor plate / VGS unit. The Y3/8N1 turbine speed sensor and Y3/8N2 internal speed sensor provide the transmission control module with the shaft-speed information required for precise gear changes. When either sensor fails, the transmission can shift harshly, behave erratically or enter limp mode.

First, we inspect the conductor plate and confirm the covered speed-sensor fault. Next, we replace the failed Y3/8N1 and/or Y3/8N2 sensor components and fully test the repaired unit. We return the same conductor plate, so its existing coding remains intact. Once refitted, no SCN programming or dealer coding is required.

Before booking

Common Symptoms Associated with This Fault

  • Harsh, jerky or erratic gear changes
  • Transmission holding a gear too long before forcing the next change
  • Transmission entering limp mode, commonly remaining in 2nd gear
  • Limp mode temporarily clearing after the engine is switched off and restarted
  • Engine-management or transmission warning light illuminated
  • Fault codes 0717, 0718 or 2201 stored in the transmission control module
Important: This repair is specifically for confirmed internal speed-sensor faults. Code 0717 indicates that the Y3/8N1 turbine-speed signal is unavailable, code 0718 indicates that Y3/8N1 is defective, and code 2201 indicates that Y3/8N2 is defective. Confirm the stored fault code before booking.

Is This Repair Right for Your Vehicle?

Choose this Mercedes 7G-Tronic conductor plate repair when the vehicle is fitted with the 722.9 automatic transmission and diagnostics confirm one of the covered internal speed-sensor faults. Before booking, check each point below:

  • Confirm that the vehicle is fitted with a Mercedes 7G-Tronic 722.9 automatic transmission.
  • Confirm fault code 0717, 0718 or 2201 in the transmission control module.
  • Remove the conductor plate from the valve body after draining the transmission oil and removing the sump pan.
  • Send the conductor plate / VGS unit only — do not send the gearbox or complete valve body.

Need help? Send us the complete conductor-plate part number and the confirmed diagnostic fault code through our contact page or by email. We will then help confirm suitability before you order. Sending the complete valve body may result in a £50 surcharge and delay the repair.

Important packing instruction

Do Not Send the Valve Body

Please send the conductor plate / VGS unit only. Remove the conductor plate from the aluminium valve body before packing and posting it to us. The gearbox remains in the vehicle and the complete valve body is not required for this repair.

  • Send: the removed conductor plate / VGS unit only.
  • Do not send: the complete valve body, gearbox, sump pan or transmission fluid.
  • Package the conductor plate securely after it has been removed and drained.
Important: Sending the complete valve body may result in a £50 surcharge, may delay your repair and may cause the parcel to be refused by the carrier.

Simple process. Fast turnaround. Fully tracked.

How to Get Your Unit Repaired

Book online

Select Book Repair and complete checkout securely on our website.

Pack and send your unit

Drain the transmission oil, remove the sump pan and detach the conductor plate from the valve body. Protect the electrical connector and internal components, then package the conductor plate securely using suitable protective material and the prepaid Royal Mail label. Please send the conductor plate only — do not include the valve body, gearbox parts or excess transmission fluid.

We repair and fully test it

Once received, the conductor plate is inspected, the covered Y3/8N1 and/or Y3/8N2 speed-sensor fault is repaired, and the unit is fully tested using dedicated bench equipment. Repair, testing and dispatch are completed within 48 hours of receipt at our workshop, excluding weekends and bank holidays — normally sooner.

We return it fast

Your original conductor plate is carefully packed and returned by Royal Mail Tracked 24. Refit it to the valve body, refill the transmission with the correct fresh fluid and clear the stored fault codes. Because the same unit is repaired, its existing coding remains intact and no SCN programming or dealer coding is required.
Please use the label we provide so your parcel remains fully tracked and qualifies for free postage.

Useful information

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is repaired on the Mercedes 7G-Tronic conductor plate?
We replace the failed internal Y3/8N1 and/or Y3/8N2 speed-sensor components within your original conductor plate / VGS unit. These sensors monitor transmission shaft speeds and are a known failure point on the 7G-Tronic 722.9.
Do I need to send the whole gearbox?
No. The gearbox remains in the vehicle. After draining the oil and removing the sump pan, remove the conductor plate from the valve body and send the conductor plate only.
Should I send the valve body as well?
No. Please remove the conductor plate from the valve body before packaging it. Sending the complete valve body may result in a £50 surcharge, may delay the repair and may cause the parcel to be refused by the carrier.
Which fault codes does this repair cover?
This repair addresses code 0717 for an unavailable Y3/8N1 turbine-speed signal, code 0718 for a defective Y3/8N1 turbine-speed sensor, and code 2201 for a defective Y3/8N2 internal speed sensor.
Will the conductor plate need coding after refitting?
No. We repair your original conductor plate, so it retains its existing coding and does not require SCN programming or dealer coding after refitting.
How long does the repair take?
We start the 48-hour workshop turnaround when the conductor plate reaches our workshop. The timeframe excludes weekends and bank holidays. In many cases, we finish sooner.
What happens if the unit cannot be repaired?
If we cannot repair the unit, we contact you and arrange a full refund under our No Repair, No Fee commitment. Every completed repair includes a 2-year warranty, subject to our warranty terms.
